Frequently asked questions

Does it cost anything?

No. It stays free for as long as I can carry the cost.

Do I need an account?

No. Visor works signed out — the map, navigation, and recording all run without one, and your rides stay on your phone. An account is what lets your rides survive a lost phone, and what lets you ride with other people.

Does it work without a signal?

GPS doesn't need a signal, so your position and your recording keep working anywhere. Two things do need a connection: seeing where your crew is, and loading map regions you haven't already got. You can save a map area to the phone before you leave, from the Offline screen.

Do I have to press record?

No. With Visor open on the mount, the ride records itself as you go. If you set off with the phone pocketed and the screen off it can miss the start, so keep it on the mount when the whole track matters.

The map won't follow me

Visor needs location permission. Open your phone's settings for Visor and give it location access — "While Using" at the very least.

Can my crew see me with the phone in my pocket?

Only if you've given Visor the "Always" location permission. With "While Using" the phone stops reporting the moment the screen goes off, which is most of a ride. On Android, also turn off battery optimization for Visor, or the system will quietly stop it.

Who can see where I am?

Riders you have added, while you are sharing. There is no public map. The Privacy Policy has the full account.

Will it wreck my battery?

A phone holding a GPS fix with the screen lit costs some power, and no app talks its way out of that. Visor tries not to make it worse: the map only redraws when the position actually moves, and it's capped at 60 frames a second. For a long day, run a charger to the mount.

Can I get my rides out?

Yes. Tap Offline on the dash, then GPX, then Export. You get a standard GPX file through the share sheet, and it's yours. Soon I'll build a website where you can export it using a web browser.

What does it run on?

iPhones and Android phones.

Why is everything so big?

It's sized for gloves. Nothing you can tap on the riding screen is narrower than a gloved fingertip, which is also why there is so little on it.

How do I delete everything?

Four taps and a couple of confirmations: deleting your account.
